Recording Session: Idan Raichel & India.Arie ft/ Frederic Yonnet
Frédéric Yonnet Joins Grammy-Award Winning Singer/Songwriter India.Aire and Producer Idan Raichel on New CD, Open Door Set to Release 2012.
Frédéric Yonnet takes you into the practice and recording studios with him as he prepares to lay tracks on Idan Raichel and India.Arie’s latest project, Open Doors.
When Frédéric Yonnet stepped into India.Arie’s home recording studio in Atlanta back in March, he had a feeling that, in retrospect, he describes as “twice blessed”. He and India.Arie had performed live together several times in the past and he looked forward to finally getting into the studio with her. A blessing. Her producer, Israeli composer Idan Raichel, eagerly briefed Yonnet on the music and Yonnet responded by laying his sometimes smooth and at other times raw, soulful expressions on several songs on the highly anticipated new project, Open Door.
“The chance to work with India was a blessing,” said Yonnet. “But then you add Idan to the mix and you’re twice blessed. I’m very proud to lend my voice to the message and the music of this project.”
Arie tapped Raichel– a driving force in contemporary world music – to create a cross-genre collection of songs that are poignantly relevant to a global audience. Stripped of overproduced instruments and emboldened by their cause, Arie and Raichel confidently deliver one of the most honest musical expressions to have reached the stage in years.
Open Door delivers consistent themes of acceptance and unity that lay the foundation for an impassioned body of work. This penetrating collection forges cultural divides and exemplifies the raw power of open, simple production.
Arie has found in Raichel a self-described “musical soul mate” who breathes new life into her signature brand of raw, empowered soulful R&B/pop/folk music. Open Door is a stunning array of effortlessly blended styles that Arie describes as, “the most authentic musical expression of my life thus far.” The authentic East-meets-West experience features minimal production; piano, percussion, strings, winds, and multilingual lyrics sung in Hebrew and English.
