Today: Frederic Yonnet Performs in Tribute to Spike Lee

From “She’s Gotta Have It” to “Malcolm X” and “Mo’ Better Blues,” Spike Lee films are as memorable for their music as they are for their content and style.

On Saturday, June 4, 2011, urban jazz harmonicist Frederic Yonnet performs a medley of songs from Spike Lee movies as part of an unforgettable evening with the noted and often controversial filmmaker at Washington, D.C.’s Lincoln Theatre. During the tribute, hosted by the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute, Lee will be presented with the 2011 Paul Robeson “Here I Stand” award after which he will be interviewed live on stage by George Curry, columnist and former Editor-in-Chief of Emerge Magazine. The show, which includes dance presentations by Urban Artistry, Olivia Zhang, the Hung Tao Choy Mei “Lucky Lions, will end with Yonnet’s performance.

Thanks to trumpeter and composer Terrance Blanchard, Yonnet has an amazing repertoire of  soundtracks from which to choose. Don’t miss the conversation and the music. Purchase tickets at the Lincoln Theatre.
